Diploma Apostille Netherlands

Need to use a Dutch diploma, transcript, certificate or other education document abroad? A foreign university, employer, authority or professional body may require an apostille, legalisation, certified translation, verification or a specific document format.

This page helps you understand which route may be relevant before you submit, translate, apostille or send your education document abroad.

A Dutch diploma is not always ready for use abroad.

An education document can be correct in content but still be rejected if the format, stamp, signature, apostille, legalisation, translation or copy does not meet the requirements of the foreign party.

That is why it is important to review the exact wording from the university, employer, authority or professional body before choosing a document route.

When is this often requested?

Admission to a foreign university, college or education programme.
Credential evaluation, professional registration or work abroad.
Immigration procedures, visa applications or international files.
When an organisation asks for apostille, legalisation, translation or verification.

Which route may be required?

The correct route depends on the document, destination country, education institution and the requirements of the receiving organisation.

1

Apostille

For countries that accept apostilles, an apostille may be needed to make the diploma or education document usable abroad.

2

Legalisation

For some countries or authorities, a different legalisation route may be required instead of a standard apostille.

3

Translation

A certified translation may be required if the receiving party does not accept Dutch or the available language format.

4

Verification or copy

Sometimes the issue is a certified copy, institutional verification or additional review of the document format.

When extra review is useful

A Document Route Check is especially useful when the request is unclear, includes multiple steps or comes from a foreign organisation.

Pay attention when

The foreign party uses words such as apostilled, legalised, certified, verified or translated.
You are not sure whether an original, copy, transcript, certificate or translation is needed.
You live outside the Netherlands or cannot collect or submit the document yourself.
Several education documents or authorities are involved.

What Apostille Assist can do

Apostille Assist can review the request, explain the possible Dutch document route and, where practically possible, help coordinate documents, apostille, legalisation, translation or shipping.

The support is practical and document-focused. It does not replace legal, immigration, tax, property or university advice.

How the process usually starts

You do not need to know all the answers in advance. The instruction or checklist from the foreign party is usually the best starting point.

1

Share the request

Send the wording, checklist or requirement from the university, employer, authority or professional body.

2

Review the route

The likely Dutch-side steps for the document are reviewed.

3

Explain the next step

You receive guidance on apostille, legalisation, translation, verification or practical coordination.

4

Coordinate where possible

If support is possible, Apostille Assist can help coordinate the practical Dutch-side steps.

Frequently asked questions

Does every Dutch diploma need an apostille?

No. It depends on the country, receiving organisation and document type. Sometimes an apostille is needed, sometimes legalisation, translation, verification or a certified copy is required.

Do I also need a translation?

That depends on the language accepted by the foreign party. Sometimes an English or international-format document is enough. In other cases, a certified translation is required.

Can a copy of my diploma be used?

Sometimes, but the receiving party may require a certified copy and may specify who must certify it. The foreign organisation ultimately decides which form it accepts.

Can Apostille Assist guarantee that my diploma will be accepted?

No. The foreign institution or authority decides whether a document is accepted. Apostille Assist helps with the Dutch document route and practical coordination.

What should I send first?

Send the wording, checklist or exact requirement from the foreign party. That usually gives the clearest picture of the required document route.

Is this legal or education advice?

No. Apostille Assist provides document route review and practical document coordination, not legal, immigration, tax, property or education advice.
