Independent document service for Dutch documents used abroad.
DigiD route · Dutch birth certificate

Your Dutch birth certificate. From DigiD to apostille.

Request your birth certificate online with DigiD and, where the municipality allows it, have the original sent directly to Apostille Assist. We arrange the apostille and international delivery.

One online request. We take it from there.

Use your own DigiD to request the certificate from the Dutch municipality where your birth was registered.

1

Request with DigiD

Order your birth certificate through the municipality's online service using your own DigiD.

2

Send it directly to us

Where available, use Apostille Assist as the delivery address for the original certificate.

3

We arrange the apostille

Once the suitable original arrives, we handle the Dutch apostille step for you.

4

Delivered to you

The completed document can then be sent to your address in the Netherlands or abroad.

Your DigiD stays with you. You complete the municipal request yourself. Apostille Assist never needs access to your DigiD account. Delivery options can differ by municipality.

A shorter route to an apostilled certificate.

Especially useful when you live abroad or want to avoid unnecessary document forwarding inside the Netherlands.

01

You make the official request

The municipal application stays in your name and is completed securely through your own DigiD.

02

Less forwarding

Where another delivery address is accepted, the original can come directly to us for the apostille.

03

Ready for international delivery

After the agreed Dutch steps are complete, the certificate can be shipped internationally.

Personal document support

Hi, I’m Aaron. I handle your document personally.

Your birth certificate comes directly to me for the agreed Dutch steps, and I keep you informed until it is ready for return. No call centre and no handovers between different case managers.

Questions about the DigiD route.

Can I request my Dutch birth certificate with DigiD?

Many Dutch municipalities offer an online civil-status document request using DigiD. The available certificate types and delivery options depend on the municipality.

Can the municipality send it directly to Apostille Assist?

Some municipal online request routes allow another delivery address or provide a way to add delivery instructions. Check the available options during your application.

Does the municipality put an apostille on my birth certificate?

No. The municipality issues the birth certificate, but does not provide the apostille. That is where Apostille Assist comes in: have the suitable original sent to us and we arrange the Dutch apostille for you.

Do I give Apostille Assist my DigiD details?

No. You log in and complete the municipal request yourself. Never share your DigiD login details.

Does every Dutch birth certificate need an apostille?

No. The requirement depends on the destination country and receiving authority. Some international routes do not require an apostille.

Can the apostilled certificate be shipped abroad?

Yes. Once the agreed Dutch steps are complete, trackable international delivery can be arranged.
