Can I request a Dutch marriage certificate with DigiD?
Many municipalities allow civil-status documents to be requested online using DigiD. The exact certificate types and delivery options depend on the municipality holding the marriage record.
Which municipality issues my marriage certificate?
The marriage certificate is normally requested from the municipality where the marriage was registered in the Dutch civil-status records.
Can the municipality send the certificate directly to Apostille Assist?
Some online municipal applications allow another delivery address or give you a way to provide delivery instructions. The available options should be checked during the DigiD request.
Does the municipality add the apostille?
No. The municipality issues the marriage certificate but does not add the apostille. That is where Apostille Assist comes in: the suitable original can be sent to us so we can arrange the Dutch apostille.
Do I need to share my DigiD login with you?
No. Never share your DigiD login details. You complete the official municipal request yourself and we handle the agreed document steps afterwards.
Does every Dutch marriage certificate require an apostille?
No. Whether an apostille is required depends on the destination country, the receiving authority and the purpose for which the marriage certificate will be used.
Can you send the completed certificate abroad?
Yes. Once the agreed Dutch steps are complete, trackable international delivery can be arranged.
What if my municipality does not allow another delivery address?
You can still request the certificate yourself with DigiD and forward the original to Apostille Assist after you receive it.
