DUO legalisation and apostille in Utrecht.
DUO legalisation and an apostille are different authentications. I coordinate the handover between the education check and the Utrecht court step so the original follows one planned route.

From education verification to international use
DUO legalisation and the apostille are connected, but they do not perform the same function.
DUO checks education
DUO checks whether the original education document and recognised Dutch programme meet its legalisation conditions.
Court adds apostille
For use in an apostille country, a district court authenticates the DUO signature by adding the apostille.
Foreign authority decides use
The recipient determines whether it also wants a translation, recent issue, sealed set or particular delivery method.
Prepare these details before the route starts
Original document
The education document should be original, complete, on original institution paper and appropriately signed.
Destination country
The country determines whether the route ends with an apostille or follows a different legalisation chain.
Recipient checklist
Send the employer, university, licensing body or immigration instruction before the route starts.
Common institutions in DUO legalisation requests
DUO applies national education-document conditions, while each institution controls its own diploma, transcript, replacement and verification process. Start with the guide matching the issuing institution.
Frequently asked questions
Can DUO add the apostille?
No. DUO performs the education-document legalisation. A district court adds the apostille for use in an apostille country.
Where is the DUO step completed?
Use DUO’s current appointment and submission instructions for the education-document step; the later apostille can be coordinated through Utrecht.
Can I skip DUO and go directly to the court?
Generally not for Dutch education documents that require legalisation. The court needs the recognised prior DUO signature.
What if the destination is not an apostille country?
The route may continue through the Consular Service Centre and possibly an embassy or consulate instead of a court apostille.
Can both Utrecht steps be coordinated?
Yes. Document Coordination can cover the agreed DUO and court steps plus translation or delivery if required.
Why use Apostille Assist?
One coordinator connects the education verification with the later court and delivery stages.
Correct sequence
The education document is routed through the required authorities in the right order.
Fewer handovers
Agreed legalisation, apostille, translation and delivery steps are coordinated centrally.
Clear scope and fee
You know which Dutch steps are included before original documents are handled.
