order
Netherlands
An official copy of a Dutch family court decision.
In the Netherlands, an adoption, parental responsibility or maintenance order is a written court decision (a beschikking). Each type of order relates to a different legal procedure. The correct request route depends on the court that issued the decision, your connection to the case and the intended use of the document.
We help determine which document to request and what information may be needed to prepare your application.
Orders we can assess
- Adoption orders (adoptiebeschikking)
- Parental responsibility, custody or guardianship orders
- Child or spousal maintenance orders
- Replacement copies of previously issued court decisions
Not everyone can request a copy. The court may require proof of identity, authorisation or evidence that you are entitled to access the decision.

How we assist with your request.
Tell us which order you need
Let us know whether your request concerns adoption, parental responsibility, custody or maintenance, and where the document will be used.
We review the available details
A case number, decision date and names of the parties can help. We also assess whether authorisation or other supporting information may be required.
Request from the competent authority
Once the scope is agreed, the request can be prepared or submitted under the applicable procedure. The court decides whether a copy may be released and to whom.
Additional steps if needed
After a suitable document is obtained, we can coordinate any agreed apostille, translation and international delivery.

Frequently asked questions about Dutch family court orders.
Can I request an adoption order from Amsterdam District Court?
Potentially, if Amsterdam District Court issued the decision and you are entitled to receive a copy. Adoption files are particularly sensitive, and the court determines who may access them.
Can I obtain another copy of a parental responsibility or custody order?
You may be able to request a copy from the court that issued the decision. A court order is not the same as an extract from the Dutch parental responsibility register (gezagsregister). The document you need depends on the receiving authority.
Where can I request a child support or spousal maintenance order?
Usually from the court that issued the order. If possible, provide the case number and the date of the decision.
Can someone request the document on my behalf?
This depends on the procedure and your entitlement to access the record. The court may require a signed authorisation, proof of identity or additional supporting documents.
Do I need an apostille for use abroad?
It depends on the destination country, the receiving authority and the document. We first assess which type of official copy and authentication may be appropriate.
Can I start the request while living outside the Netherlands?
Yes. You can contact us remotely. We will assess the available procedure and whether an authorisation is required.
Is Apostille Assist affiliated with the court?
No. Apostille Assist is an independent commercial service provider and is not affiliated with Amsterdam District Court or the Dutch judiciary.
