Dutch tax documents
for use abroad.
Need a Dutch tax statement, assessment or certificate for an authority abroad? Understand the different documents and how Apostille Assist can help coordinate the Dutch side.
The exact tax document matters.
A foreign authority may ask for a tax clearance certificate, proof of tax residence, a final tax assessment or evidence that a company has no outstanding tax debts. These are not interchangeable documents.
The Netherlands has its own document names and issuing procedures. The correct choice depends on what the receiving authority wants to establish, not simply on the English term used in its checklist.
Before arranging legalisation, identify the actual document and check whether an original, named signature, translation or apostille is required.
Common Dutch tax documents for international use.
These documents serve different purposes. Review the distinctions before starting an application or legalisation process.
Statement of payment history
Verklaring betalingsgedrag nakoming fiscale verplichtingen. Provides information about outstanding tax debts according to the Dutch Tax Administration's records at a specified date. It does not certify that every tax return has been filed or replace a final tax assessment.
Certificate of tax residence
Woonplaatsverklaring. Used to evidence Dutch tax residence for relevant international tax purposes. This is different from a statement of payment history.
Dutch tax clearance certificate
An international umbrella term, not necessarily the official title of a single Dutch document. The receiving authority's wording must be compared with the Dutch documents actually available.
Tax document without a signature?
Received a Dutch tax document without a signature, but need it legalised for use abroad? Apostille Assist can review which next steps may be possible. A signed replacement cannot be guaranteed.
Received a Dutch tax document without a signature?
Some Dutch tax documents arrive without a handwritten signature or the name of the responsible official. That can become an obstacle when you need the document legalised for use abroad.
Apostille Assist can review what you received, help identify what may be missing and coordinate the appropriate Dutch steps where possible. A signed replacement cannot be guaranteed.
Which Dutch tax document do you need?
Select a document above to learn more. The signature card links directly to the section about unsigned documents. If you have the exact wording of a foreign authority's request, send it to Apostille Assist for an individual assessment.
From the right document to the right legalisation route.
Not every Dutch tax document can be apostilled in its original form. Its issuing authority, signature and the destination country's requirements determine the next steps.
Identify the required evidence
Compare the foreign authority's request with the available Dutch tax statements, certificates and assessments.
Check the original and signature
Review whether the document has the form, original signature and identifiable official needed for any preliminary signature legalisation.
Coordinate the applicable authorities
Where possible, arrange the appropriate signature legalisation and subsequent apostille or other authentication. Additional steps depend on the document and destination.
Arrange return or international delivery
When the agreed processing is complete, the original can be returned or shipped internationally.
Small details can stop an entire tax document route.
An unsigned assessment, a statement without an identifiable signatory, or an incorrect document type can lead to extra correspondence and delays.

Frequently asked questions.
Is a Dutch statement of payment history the same as a tax clearance certificate?
Not automatically. "Tax clearance certificate" is a broad international term. A Dutch statement of payment history addresses outstanding tax debts based on the information available to the Tax Administration, whereas other requested evidence may concern residence, filing history or a particular assessment.
Can a Dutch tax statement receive an apostille?
It may be possible after the appropriate preliminary legalisation of an eligible official signature. The exact route must be checked against the document, the signatory and the destination requirements. An unsigned printout is not automatically eligible.
Can you arrange a signature on an unsigned tax document?
I can help assess what the issuing authority may be able to provide and coordinate enquiries where appropriate. A signed replacement or additional official certification cannot be guaranteed.
Do I need to return to the Netherlands?
For document handling that permits representation, many steps can be coordinated remotely. Some applications or authentications may require the applicant's direct involvement.
Can you obtain a Dutch tax document for me?
Depending on the document and the authority's rules, I can assess whether an application or request can be coordinated. Some records are only released to the taxpayer or an authorised representative.
Is an apostille accepted in every country?
No. The correct authentication depends on the destination country and the receiving authority. Some destinations require additional or different legalisation.
