agreement
Netherlands
A copy of your prenuptial agreement or evidence of registration.
In the Netherlands, prenuptial agreements are generally recorded in a notarial deed. A certified copy is normally requested from the notary who executed the deed or the notary’s successor.
The matrimonial property register is maintained by the courts and can be used to check whether an agreement has been registered. The document you need depends on the requirements of the receiving authority.
Common situations
- You need a copy of the original notarial deed
- You need an extract or information from the matrimonial property register
- An overseas authority requires proof of your matrimonial property arrangements
- You need a document legalised for use abroad
A register entry is not the same as a complete copy of the notarial deed.
The right document route, without unnecessary steps.
We first establish which document is required and which authority may hold it. We can then coordinate the next steps.

How we help you obtain the right document.
Tell us what you need
Tell us where the document will be used, whether you need a deed or register information, and whether the agreement was executed before a notary.
We identify the issuing source
We determine whether the request should go through the matrimonial property register or a notary’s office, and what information or authorisation may be needed.
We prepare the request
Once the scope of service is agreed, we assist in requesting the documents. Availability and processing times depend on the relevant authority.
Additional steps if needed
For use abroad, we assess whether an apostille, legalisation, translation or international delivery is required.
What information do we need?
A few basic details can help us determine where to request your document.
Information for an initial review
- Names of both spouses or registered partners
- Date and place of marriage or registered partnership
- Name of the notary, if known
- Deed or registration number, if available
- Destination country and intended purpose
Requirements vary by document and authority. Share identity documents only through an agreed secure method.
How much does it cost to obtain a prenuptial agreement?
Costs depend on the document required. A register search, an official extract and a copy of a notarial deed are different services and may have different fees. Apostille Assist charges a separate fee for the assistance or coordination agreed with you.
Any notary, court, apostille, translation or international shipping costs depend on the required route. You may also request documents directly from the relevant authority.
Frequently asked questions about prenuptial agreements.
Can I obtain my prenuptial agreement from Amsterdam District Court?
The complete agreement is normally contained in a notarial deed. The notary or their successor is usually the first point of contact for a copy. The court maintains the matrimonial property register, where relevant registrations can be checked.
What is the difference between the notarial deed and the matrimonial property register?
The notarial deed contains the terms of the agreement. The register contains registration information. A register entry does not automatically replace a copy of the deed.
What if I do not know which notary prepared the deed?
Marriage details and any registration information may help identify the correct route. We can review the information available.
Can I use the document abroad?
This depends on the receiving authority’s requirements. An official copy, apostille or sworn translation may be required. We can assess the appropriate procedure.
Can I start the request from abroad?
Yes. You can contact us remotely. We assess whether we can assist with the request on your behalf and what authorisation or additional information may be needed.
Is Apostille Assist part of the court?
No. Apostille Assist is an independent commercial service provider and is not affiliated with the Dutch judiciary or any notary’s office.
